To say I was excited for this walk was an understatement. It being the first time that I’d attempting a long-distance path I wasn’t sure what to expect but, as you do, it was decided to make this walk to another level. Instead of the usual six to seven days we would be walking it, carrying all the gear in 50l rucksacks, in only five.
This piece is my story on how Scotland’s West Highland Way tried its best to make us stop – it nearly succeeded – but we came out on top. It’s not my wish to scare anybody off doing this walk because it is lovely but I would suggest some caution if you decide to push your limits. There are areas of remoteness that can compromise your safety if you’re not well prepared. But do give this a read to find out about how this beautiful and famous walk became a full-on battle against the odds.
