One chapter closes and another begins | We’re moving to Yorkshire!

Two and a half years ago I moved from the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains to the flatlands of Peterborough. But it’s now time for a new adventure – and it’s one I eagerly await. It will be no surprise, as you’ll have gathered from the title of this blog, I’m moving up to Yorkshire.

Moving to Peterborough was a tough move. I was moving properly away from my family and the home I’d grown up in, to start my own life for real. University prepped me well, but I always knew I could just go home if I needed. Now, however, I was fending for myself and earning a proper salary. To say it has been an adventure has been an understatement. I’ve learnt so many things that I could never regret taking the chance and moving across the country away from everything I knew.

I properly learnt how to fend for myself, sort things out when they went wrong, budget and, possibly the most important thing, to put myself out there. It took a lot of guts to go out, join clubs and forge new contacts but it’s such a necessary thing to do. You’re not thrown together into such close quarters like you are at university and so it takes a lot of effort, especially when you’re shattered after a long day at work.

It’s now definitely time to move on though, as Peterborough is just not the place for me. After two years of longing for hills and being tired of being tired for all the travelling I do to get to them on the weekends, I am unbelievably excited to be moving north. All of a sudden, the Peak District is even closer, as is Snowdonia and the Lakes, and Glen Coe has now become a weekend trip. Not to forget Nidderdale, Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and Northumberland are basically on the doorstep. With my notice handed in, I’m thrilled to be planning this move to a new job and new area with my favourite person.
